Dear Friends - January 2012

By Andy Jarvis

Dear Friends,

By the time you read this it will be Christmas and New Year will be
approaching. 2011 was a challenging year, one some will want to forget, but we cannot do that, Instead we must move on with a determination that tough times in the past make us stronger for the future because they make us depend more upon God.
One of the ways we can express our dependence upon God is by feeding on His word and in order to encourage you to do that, here are a few
quotations from those who experienced the value of reading the Bible in their lives;

“The Bible is the truest utterance that ever came from the soul of man, through which, as through a window divinely opened, all men can look into the stillness of eternity, and discern in glimpses, their far-distant, long-forgotten home.” Thomas Carlyle, Scottish writer & historian 1795-1881

“Whatever merit there is in anything I have written is simply due to the fact that when I was a child, my mother daily read me a part of the Bible and daily made me learn a part of it by heart.”
John Ruskin, poet and art critic 1819-1900

“The New Testament is the very best book that ever was or ever will be known in the world.”
Charles Dickens, English novelist

“When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said "Let us pray." We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land.”

Bishop Desmond Tutu

“The Bible is no mere book, but a Living Creature, with a power that conquers all who oppose it.”
Napoleon
“I am going to put the Bible out of business.”

Robert Ingersoll

“Another century and there will not be a Bible on earth!”
Voltaire

“Voltaire expected that within fifty years of his lifetime there would not be one Bible in the world. His house is now a distribution centre for Bibles in many languages.” Corrie Ten Boom

“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Luke 11:28
If we take this book seriously, others will. If we don’t, we cannot expect others to.
I pray that 2012 is a very significant and positive year for us all because we experience the truth of Luke 11:28,

God bless you,

Andy
