Luke 5:1-11, Matt 16:21 -26a

When someone in authority gives you an order, it's easy to do what's asked, but when they start giving orders about things of which they know very little and which are, in fact, your area of expertise, it's harder to swallow doing what they say. When Peter chose to obey Jesus' fishing instruction, despite his local knowledge and experience telling him it would be a waste of time, he saw Jesus' glory in a miraculous catch. Choosing to follow Jesus always means letting go of the idea that we are the experts on our lives, our capabilities, our needs and obeying Him anyway. In the parable, the one-talent servant decided the outcome. How much have we decided the outcome of what God wants to do through us?
